Video: Zui Zui Zukorobashi by Yu:Mi + Acid42

In October of 2005, Japanese vocalist Yu:Mi and Filipino producer Acid42 released a unique collaboration of Japanese children’s songs set to electropop music. The result was an EP called “Kodomo” (which means “Child” in Nihongo) and was release number qd-4230.

This music video is the 2 minute song “Zui Zui Zukorobashi”– a bouncy, silly kids’ song about a rat that gets into trouble by eating the rice supplies. We set the synthpop song to an interesting opensource animation entitled “Life (in a Box)” by animator Tim Cuthbertson, and did really minimal edits. We feel the fun, but sort of sad visuals match the light and slightly sinister music perfectly. Here then is our second music video. Enjoy!

Dancing in My Head is a 4-track sampler from Nyko Maca + Playground’s self-titled debut album under Infectious Records. Nyko Maca + Playground is a Manila-based band combining electronica, acid jazz, and house music with Brazilian rhythms, jazz vocals and acoustic instrumentation. The result is a stellar combination of old-school jazz crooning with modern dancefloor beats.

When Switchboard Of Souls sings: “Don’t bother me, just leave us alone, don’t you know that we’re all just as human,” he sounds the anthem of the alienated and the disenfranchised. It’s a simple enough tune, but the variations do bring new viewpoints to the plate.

The first two original 8-minute-plus tracks utilize a driving darkwave synth with guitars and vocals reminiscent of early New Order, but subsequent versions range from electro 808 State-like arrangements (Common Prayer Mix), to industrial stylings (BlenderMix), to sinister downtempo (Hands & Feet Mix), to 90s pop remix (InstrumentalMix), to new age piano (Sonata), to a combo of everything on the 2 reprises.
