(qd-4229) Chromer - Keep It Street
[QD-4229] : CHROMER : Keep It Street (EP)
First there is quiet ambient backmasking, then there are twisted takes on happy pop songs, plus crisp glitchy rhythm patterns. Then there is grungy digital noise with a sprinkling of synth pads. Australia-based CHROMER returns with an experimental 4-track EP entitled KEEP IT STREET which will bend your mind as much as it bends your ears. Keep hold of that volume level, kids.
FILE UNDER: IDM, noise, experimental, more moo than u-ziq, glitch, angstronica

(qd-4227) Moon Fear Moon - i anarchist
[QD-4227] : MOON FEAR MOON : i anarchist (EP)
Endless horizons and barren wastelands. Ambient washes and pulsing glitch rhythms. Pretty chords with sad melodies, quiet polaroids with red-eye distortion. Lullabies and alien distress signals. I ANARCHIST is Moon Fear Moon‘s second EP on QED Records, and yet another intricately constructed musical object, meant to be hungrily consumed and proudly displayed at the same time.
MOON FEAR MOON is John Sobrepena on laptop, brandishing Propellerheads Reason 3.0 to fend off the coming darkness.
FILE UNDER: IDM, ambient downtempo, glitch, Intelligent Drone Music, less bored than the Boards of Canada

(qd-4222) Chromer - Ikaw Maganda
[QD-4222] : CHROMER : Ikaw Maganda (EP)
Sullen minimalist downtempo tunes flavored with a little IDM/glitch put together by a classically-trained electronica composer who takes inspiration from the Philippines and transforms it into audio snapshots of decay and beauty. The standout is the all-too-brief “Paradise Island” which pits lush soundtrack strings with ambient jungle sounds.
Ikaw Maganda (which literally means “you beautiful” in Filipino) is Chromer’s first QED release, but definitely not his last.
FILE UNDER: IDM, ambient, downtempo, soundtrack, more poised than Aphex Twin, less congenial than Autechre.

(qd-4219) Brank : your path is a strange and difficult one
[QD-4219] : BRANK : your path is a strange and difficult one (EP)
Brank’s “your path is a strange and difficult one” is a fun, playful electropop romp in a playground made of insulated wires and silicon chip flowers. At times harmonc, and at times all too discordant, this synthesized pop music is created specifically for your world of play and rest. The 11-minute, 3-song EP covers 2 moods: frenetic energy and slow introspection, and manages to insert life into plastic machinery. All hail, Brank from southern California!
FILE UNDER: IDM, electropop. synthpop, electro, more playful than a robot puppy, sadder than a hard drive with bad sectors.

(qd-4216) Moon Fear Moon - Farsight
[QD-4216] : MOON FEAR MOON : Farsight (EP)
Farsight is a collection of 6 abstract, plastic, IDM tunes which despite its machinelike origin and process of creation, exudes a soothing warmth which points to a human originator. Expect to be lulled by the hypnotic programmed percussion and the bleeping soundwaves. This is scientific IDM that aint schizophrenic, composed and created by one man, using a laptop running REASON software, and a mouse to draw the notes in. Moon Fear Moon is John Sobrepeña.
FILE UNDER: IDM, glitch, more introspective than Plone, warmer than Squarepusher

(qd-4207) Scorphius - Progression is the Motion
[QD-4207] : SCORPHIUS : Progression Is The Motion (EP)
On the 5-track EP Progression Is The Motion, expect the sound of gongs, buzzing, soft female voices, creepy metallic synths, coughing, speaking men, and hypnotic percussive rhythms. These are future tribal sounds meant for some cyborg coming-of-age ritual. This is menacing music with a nod towards ethnic Philippine ethnic rhythms, crafted by a hermetic Philippine producer who only converses via email.
On his bio, he writes: Scorphius currently works as a professional freelance mascot by day and “magbabalot” by night. He also plays banduria for NCB (Non-Conformist Bastards), a brutal chacha metal band.
