Before he saw the light and switched over to a laptop / software and MIDI controller setup, he recorded for posterity this full-on live dance set which features the techno, breaks, and hard-hitting house styles he’s come to be known for. Over more than 2 hours, Silverfilter treats us to his energetic spirit where he bleeds electronic dance into our ears via his hardware. Bring on the house!

(qd-4249) Various Artists: Basics - The ElectronicaManila General MIDI Project
ElectronicaManila is a collective of active musicians and producers of Philippine descent, who were brought together by a mailing list of the same name in 2001, and have since gone on to produce shows, albums, projects and this compilation.
BASICS is a project that spawned from the idea: come up with one song using only the general MIDI set of instruments, and pool together the results for a compilation. What you have here is a collection of idiosyncratic grooves ranging from techno to ambient that capture the distinct flavor of ElectronicaManila.

Unearthed from hidden files comes this track, a seamless 42-minute live set by Wolfmann [Wilfrid Hernandez] as a solo electronica artist, recorded at a March 19, 2003 gig in Paradiso Bar, Quezon City, Philippines. Hard-hitting breaks by a producer wielding analog Korg Electribes and an SP-202 sampler, with enough verve to out-chemical the Chemical Brothers and smash some pumpkins.
Once again, the samplist known as Emorej pits his Acid Pro skills against vocal loops, 4-on-the-floor kickdrums and all sorts of fine funky riffs to come up with a chunky mix of vocal house, trance, drum n bass, breakbeats and even a jazzy downtempo number or two. Equal parts Dance Dance Revolution, Moby, C+C Music Factory and Deee-Lite/Towa Tei, this is one Potpourri that sure smells funky as a llama’s behind.

In 2004, Lionel Valdellon (Acid42) was contracted to produce some cheerful ethnic tunes for a childrens’ ballet recital based on the concept: Filipino children’s games. The tenth Perry Sevidal Ballet Recital was held on June 3, 2004 at the Cultural Center Of the Philippines and 3 of these 5 tunes were used in fun dance numbers involving cans, slippers, jumpropes, and even karate. The entire 5 song suite is presented here as an EP.

PORTA is Raymund “Rann” Golamco (formerly of DRIP) on guitars and vocals, and Emorej on everything else. Porta started off as a side project of songwriter Rann. He wrote the songs on a 4-track cassette recorder and distributed it to his musician friends to mangle and remix as they saw fit. This then is but one offering of the results, with sample manipulator Emorej taking rhythmic helm of these songs and turning them into an alluring mixture of funky, Bono Vox-like vocals, Jon Spencer Blues explosive guitars and rockin’ drumloops.
