[qd-4267] Paosin the Well – Dead Memoirs
String sections, the main ingredient for every Hollowood movie soundtrack, are up front and in focus on this EP by Manila-based producer Paosin the Well. His effective use of string libraries and samples coupled with steady beats result in a brooding but groovy downtempo EP that is equal parts action flick, spy movie and zombie apocalypse film rolled into one.
In a way, this 5-track EP is a homage to film and pop culture, quite possibly with the message:”Pop culture is dead. Long live Pop Culture!” The Dead Memoirs of the title then take on a much deeper meaning: that art, often a chronicle of the past, lives on in the remix of the future.

(qd-4247) Bleedingboy Soundtrack - Caches of Sempiternal Ennui
[QD-4247] Bleedingboy | Soundtrack : Caches of Sempiternal Ennui
Bleedingboy |Soundtrack is a master of melancholy. A self-confessed soundtrack junkie, he spends his time crafting meandering emotional expressions made of textured sound and melody. This airy ambient EP is one of them, containing six tracks of unadulterated sadness with flecks of electronic joy. Who knew there was such a thing as electronic emo?

(qd-4245) Acid42 - Nykto - Original Soundtrack
[QD-4245] Acid42 : Nykto: Original Soundtrack
Nykto by Acid42, is a series of tunes which comprise the original soundtrack to the 12-minute independent short video of the same title, directed by Elvert dela Cruz Bañares, which in turn, was loosely based on a poem entitled “Darkness” by Arris Rivera. The music is a mix of ethnic and electronic, world and urban, dark and light melodies, silence and rhythm, meandering into hope and fulfillment, as eventually all darkness must pass.
The music was created by Acid42 (Lionel Valdellon) without having seen or known anything about the film except for a brief conceptual phrase: darkness to light. The album also includes remixes by Bleedingboy|Soundtrack and Emorej, two more Philippine electronica producers and regular QED Records contributors.
FILE UNDER: worldbeat, soundtrack, electronica, ethnotronica, less morose than Morricone, world-y like Peter Gabriel, more alive than Dead Can Dance.
DETAILS: 7 mp3s, encoded at CBR and VBR (192 kbps quality), 44.1 khz stereo. | Released: July 5, 2007.

(qd-4222) Chromer - Ikaw Maganda
[QD-4222] : CHROMER : Ikaw Maganda (EP)
Sullen minimalist downtempo tunes flavored with a little IDM/glitch put together by a classically-trained electronica composer who takes inspiration from the Philippines and transforms it into audio snapshots of decay and beauty. The standout is the all-too-brief “Paradise Island” which pits lush soundtrack strings with ambient jungle sounds.
Ikaw Maganda (which literally means “you beautiful” in Filipino) is Chromer’s first QED release, but definitely not his last.
FILE UNDER: IDM, ambient, downtempo, soundtrack, more poised than Aphex Twin, less congenial than Autechre.
